The Maelstrom is our flagship spirit. A very complex blend of straight bourbons that is aged a second time in smaller casks, It's character is impacted in large part by the weather, seasons and maritime conditions. Every single day these casks are subjected to a wide range of conditions which brings out incredible tasting nuances as the bourbon rocks and breathes in it’s second casking.

It’s a very labor-intensive process that brings together art, science and centuries of learning.

The temperatures inside the boats fluctuate throughout the day and night based on the conditions. In a classic barrel rickhouse, the barrels slowly expand and contract when the seasons change. Our casks do this every day and every night due to the cold water of Lake Michigan quickly pulling the heat out of the cabins.

Going from 105 degrees in mid-afternoon summer excursions, down to the 60’s at night - that maritime conditions work very hard for us. In fact there are more than 20 different sugars in American White Oak and different ones are drawn out in different conditions and temperatures.

All of these factors make each batch uniquely its own - yet clearly connected in taste profiles as The Maelstrom.  Carefully crafted to be a truly fine sipping bourbon.

For hundreds of years whiskeys traveled the world by ships, barges and boats and along the way gathered the richness within the walls of the oak casks.

Hooligan Soup is a complex blend of IRISH whiskies finished in Bourbon oak with Maple staves, which is then finessed by the power of ill-tempered weather.

The result is a marvelously-crafted sipping whiskey without the rough edges.

Unlike anything you’ve ever tasted, it takes on a hint of sweetness and the bourbon notes from our small Maelstrom casks, making it suitable for refined drinking or treating a wounded soul.

This is a very complex blend of straight bourbons that is triple-aged. The bourbon is re-casked in new charred American White Oak, mellowed by it’s time in the waves and then it’s re-casked again and finished in French Cognac & Armagnac barrels.

The result is a rich and mellow bourbon with incredible tasting nuances from the Cognac & Armagnac influences. It’s named after the 32nd Red Arrow Division, which was given the name Les Terribles by the French Command in World War I for their bravery and relentless tenacity in breaking through the German lines which led to the end of the war. It honors all who have ever worn the uniform.

It was inspired by the heroism of Sgt. Albert Bentley Brown - Medic in the 32nd “Les Terribles” in France, 1918.  Recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross, the Croix de Guerre and the Purple Heart,

he was also the  Great Grandfather of Unbound Spirits blender K. S. Brown.
